Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jugs, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES / GREENSBORO, PA.", circa 1875, an ovoid jug with tooled spout, featuring Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling along with a stenciled shield-and-star motif; paired with a cylindrical jug with Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling within a foliate banner. Shield-decorated jug with later painted stripe decoration and later painted highlight to upper handle terminal, in otherwise excellent condition. Shield-and-star design are original. Other jug with later painted flowers, stripes, and highlights to handle terminals, with possible enhancement to original stenciled signature, the surface with in-the-firing crazing and a later coat of shellac.
