Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, attributed to Somerset Potters Works, Somerset, MA, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of two leaves flanking a tornado-shaped flourish surrounded by spots. Slip-trailed flourishes above and below. Cobalt highlight to capacity mark. Some in-the-firing indentations to bottom edge, probably created when the jug was removed from the wheel. Traces of old, spattered amber-colored paint to base, unrelated to any sort of restoration. A minor spout nick. A 1 3/8" in-the-firing iron ping to shoulder and a 7/8" iron ping to left of handle.
