Scarce and Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised and Impressed Floral Decoration, Stamped "P. CROSS / HARTFORD", CT origin, circa 1806-1808, ovoid jug with footed base, tooled spout, and heavily-ribbed handle, decorated on the shoulder with an incised and cobalt-highlighted floral motif, embellished with impressed circles. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Desirable maker, attractive decoration, and exceptional condition. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Excellent condition with three minor base chips, a very minor in-the-firing nick to spout, and a minor in-the-firing chip to top of handle.
