Two Stoneware Jars with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "A.E. SMITH & SONS, / MANUFACTURERS, / 38 Peck Slip, N.Y.", circa 1855, one-and-a-half-gallon and two-gallon jars both of similar cylindrical form with tooled shoulders and semi-rounded rims, each featuring a brushed tulip motif and cobalt highlights to the maker's mark. Provenance: From a recently-surface NC collection, purchased by the consignor decades ago. One-and-a-half-gallon jar in good condition with two rim chips, a base chip, and some staining to surface. Two-gallon jar in excellent condition with minor wear to inner rim for lid.
