Rare Two-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Impressed Decoration, attributed to Clarkson Crolius, Sr., Manhattan, NY, circa 1810, ovoid jar with open loop handles and tooled foot and shoulder, decorated on the front and reverse with an impressed flower blossom surrounded by scallop-edge, coggled petals. Cobalt highlights to alternating elements of the design create an interesting visual effect. Cracks in underside, continuing up one side of jar 6" and up opposite side 4". Additional hairlines extending 1 1/2" and 3 1/2" up from base. Rim chips. H 11 1/2".
