Scarce Half-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jar, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK", early 19th century, small-sized, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and one remaining open handle, featuring the large, cobalt-highlighted signature, "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER", impressed on the front, and the words, "MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK", on the reverse. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Missing one handle. A thin 3 3/4" crack from rim on reverse. Crazing to surface, not visible on interior. Several small chips and roughness to rim. A small, in-the-firing base chip.
