Rare and Fine Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Cherries Motif, Stenciled "Greensboro", Hamilton & Jones, Greensboro, PA, circa 1870, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim with "wax sealer" interior, the front featuring a stenciled design of three cherries hanging from a leafy stem, below the word, "Greensboro". Remainder of front profusely-decorated with six straight and wavy cobalt stripes. Greensboro cherries jars are considered difficult to find in their own right. This jar is made truly exceptional by the addition of freehand stripes throughout the front. Excellent condition with very minor wear to inner wax sealer rim and a tiny glazed-over nick to base. H 7 7/8".
