Rare Stoneware Canning Jar, Stamped "FR. LEITZINGER / CLEARFIELD, PA", circa 1851-1879, large-sized, cylindrical canning jar with narrow, slightly-flared mouth, the surface covered in a chocolate-brown Albany slip glaze. Base impressed with the rare maker's mark of Swiss immigrant potter, Frederick Leitzinger, active in the town of Clearfield in Clearfield County, PA, circa 1851-1879. This canning jar is the largest by Leitzinger we have seen. A long thin crack extending from shoulder to base area. Otherwise excellent condition. H 11 3/4".
