George Ohr Pottery Cougar Inkwell, Inscribed "Biloxi", MS origin, circa 1895-1900, molded, blackish-blue-glazed sculpture of a cougar's head with slightly-turned head and open mouth bearing teeth; the head applied to a pierced, scroddled-clay slab with coggled edge and impressed leaf motifs at the corners. Original hole to ink reservoir carved in side cougar's head. Reverse incised "Biloxi". Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor from Jim Carpenter at his shop in Montague, NJ in the 1970s. Excellent, as-made condition with an in-the-firing, glazed-over chip to one ear. L 4 1/2".
