Fine Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Cherries Motif, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES. / GREENSBORO. PA.", circa 1875, large-sized canning jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim with wax sealer interior, the front decorated with a stenciled cluster of cherries below the diagonally-stenciled maker's mark, "HAMILTON & JONES. / GREENSBORO. PA.". This canning jar is the largest example with cherries decoration we have seen. The inclusion of full "HAMILTON & JONES. / GREENSBORO. PA" maker's stenciling, applied diagonally, is also unusual. Excellent condition with some wear to inner canning jar rim. H 10".
