Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Double Bird Decoration, Stamped "G.S. GUY & CO. / FORT EDWARD, NY", circa 1880, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of two crossed birds, each perched on a leaf culminating in a trail of dots. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Includes original, Albany-slip-glazed lid, impressed with the same four-gallon capacity mark as the churn. Churn in very nice condition with a rim chip on front, two small chips and wear to inner rim for lid, and a small iron ping to reverse. Lid with several small chips and a short line from edge of opening.
