Three-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "E. & L.P. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT.", circa 1870, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and flared collar, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a stylized leaf motif. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Includes glazed stoneware lid, not original to the churn, and wooden dasher. Churn with some light scattered exfoliation, a rim chip on reverse, a small chip to interior of rim, and typical light wear to inner rim for lid. Lid in excellent condition with a minor edge nick.
