Rare Stoneware Harvest Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to J.M. Pruden, Elizabethtown, NJ, mid 19th century, beehive-form with applied horizontal handle and tubular pouring spout, the front decorated with a brushed cobalt tulip. Brushed cobalt highlights surrounding base of spout and accenting the handle terminals. Two additional cobalt stripes to right handle terminal. The decoration and color of this jug are consistent with pieces produced at the Pruden Pottery in Elizabethtown, New Jersey. This example is the first of its form we have seen produced in New Jersey. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with an in-the-firing contact mark to base area on reverse, a tiny nick to one handle terminal, a minor base nick, some light staining, and a salt drip to underside of handle. H (to top of handle) 11".
