Rare One-Quart Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Ralph J. Grier, Chester County, PA, circa 1860, small-sized, ovoid pitcher with footed base and tooled collar, decorated with a flowering plant motif extending up the front and additional flowers on either side. Leaf decorations to collar and cobalt highlights to handle terminals. With exceptional size, vivid color, and strong decoration, this pitcher is one of the finest examples of Grier stoneware we have ever offered. Shallow chipping to tip of spout, some of which is glazed over. One post-firing base chip and one, minor glazed-over base chip. A thin, in-the-firing discolored stripe to side of pitcher. H 6 3/4".
