Scarce Small-Sized Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / STONE-WARE / MANUFACTURER / Manhattan Wells / NEW YORK", early 19th century, finely-potted, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with a brushed cobalt band surrounding the spout and a vertical cobalt stripe along the handle, ending in a heavy cobalt highlight at the lower terminal. Shoulder impressed with Clarkson Crolius, Sr. oval maker's mark. Exceptional size. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, sold to benefit a church. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 8 1/4".
