Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Impressed "PICKLES" and "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW YORK", early 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flared rim, featuring the impressed word, "PICKLES", surrounded by a scalloped cobalt brushwork. Reverse impressed with Clarkson Crolius, Sr. maker's mark, underscored by draped brushwork accented with spots. Provenance: Property of a New York State collector. Two small rim chips. Three small, in-the-firing bloated spots to shoulder, one of which is chipped. A minor iron ping near base. H 9 3/4".
