Scarce and Fine One-Gallon Vertical-Handled Stoneware Jar with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "COMMERAWS / STONEWARE", Thomas Commeraw, Manhattan, NY, circa 1800, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, decorated on the front and reverse with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted drape-and-tassel design. Impressed with the cobalt-highlighted name, "COMMERAW.S", on front, and "STONEWARE" on reverse. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: Robert Meltzer Collection. A 3/4" base chip and a few minor base nicks. Short, faint in-the-firing lines to foot area. Numerous small, shallow chips to rim. H 9 3/4".
