Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, probably Manhattan, NY origin, late 18th century, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with a large brushed circle on the shoulder and heavy cobalt highlights to the handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a fifty-year private collection. Essentially as-made condition. Heavy in-the-firing chipping to base, which is glazed over. An in-the-firing chip to spout. Some in-the-firing residue to top of spout and handle. A 2 1/4" in-the-firing separation on underside. A recessed, fairly innocuous in-the-firing contact mark to reverse.
