Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Applied Eagle Decoration, Stamped "BRISTOLS * BEER" and "J* CLARK & CO / TROY", New York State origin, circa 1826-1828, ovoid cooler with ribbed open handles, circular bung hole, and semi-rounded spout, the front decorated with a molded and applied design of an eagle, highlighted in cobalt slip. Impressed above with the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "BRISTOLS * BEER". Reverse impressed with the cobalt-highlighted maker's mark, "J* CLARK & CO / TROY". Excellent form, scarce maker, and desirable applied figural decoration. Provenance: Property of a New York State collector. Some restoration to applied eagle. A 7" hairline to base area on reverse. Some minor in-the-firing flaws to reverse. H 15 1/2".
