Fine Stoneware Canning Jar with Elaborate Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and thick, semi-rounded wax sealer rim, decorated with freehand vining between straight and wavy stripes. Excellent decoration with strong color. A small, in-the-firing base chip on front. Roughness and shallow chipping to interior of rim. A chip and some very minor wear to inner wax sealer rim. H 8 1/2".
