Unusual Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration and 1821 Date, Poughkeepsie, NY origin, 1821, bowl-shaped jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated on one side with a large brushed floral motif and on the opposite side with the large date, "1821". Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Exfoliation to interior. Heavy shallow chipping to exterior of rim. Wear and shallow chipping to interior of rim. A chip to shoulder molding. Some staining. Light base wear. A long horizontal spider crack to floral-decorated side. Some typical in-the-firing flaws to surface. Some staining to surface.
