Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration and Inverted Mark, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER", New York State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with semi-squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with an artistic slip-trailed design of a flowering plant with alternating cobalt shading to the petals. Slip-trailed "4" to shoulder. This crock features a cobalt-highlighted maker's mark with the word, "ROCHESTER", inverted. Provenance: Robert Meltzer Collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
