Exceedingly Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Wreath Decoration, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / BAYARD STREET / NEW-YORK", Clarkson Crolius, Sr., Manhattan, NY, circa 1815, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, the front decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted wreath surrounding the cobalt-highlighted maker's mark, "C. CROLIUS / BAYARD STREET / NEW-YORK". Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. One of a very small number of examples known featuring Crolius's second location on Bayard Street. Provenance: Robert Meltzer Collection. Excellent condition with minor base chips and a hairline through handle. H 12 1/2".
