Extremely Rare Glazed Redware Lid, attributed to David Mandeville, Circleville, NY, circa 1835, wheel-thrown lid with rounded edge, raised molding to midsection, and rounded knob, the top decorated in manganese with curved, drape-like brushwork accented with spots, applied under a clear lead glaze. One of a small number of David Mandeville jar lids known, this example fits the David Mandeville jar in this auction. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Two adjacent pieces broken and reglued, together measuring 4 1/4". A small chip and a few tiny nicks along the reglued areas. Diameter 4 3/4".
