Three-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1870, cylindrical cooler with tooled shoulder, squared rim, applied lug handles, and circular bung hole, decorated on both sides with a two-stemmed clover plant. Cobalt band to shoulder. Cobalt highlights to bung hole and handle terminals, along with a curved line of cobalt underneath each handle. A glazed-over base chip. Minor chips to bung hole. A 1 1/8" rim chip on front. A small in-the-firing chip to rim on side of cooler. One handle with a 5/8" area of shallow chipping and an in-the-firing contact mark. A minor in-the-firing contact mark / surface chip to shoulder on reverse.
