Scarce and Fine Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Eagle Decoration, Stenciled "A.P. Donaghho, / Fredericktown, / Pa.", circa 1870, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded wax sealer rim, featuring a stenciled design of a Federal eagle with shield, clutching an olive branch and arrows, above the stenciled maker's mark, "A.P. Donaghho, / Fredericktown, / Pa.". A crisply-stenciled example with excellent color. An X-shaped hairline on underside, connecting to a thin diagonal crack extending 6 3/4" up front of jar. A minor, in-the-firing chip to rim on front and a small chip to interior of rim. A recessed in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder on reverse and some staining to reverse. H 10".
