Exceedingly Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Doll's Head with Cloth Body and Bed, Western PA origin, circa 1875, molded doll's head with cobalt highlights to the hair and face, fitted with a cloth body featuring black boots. Lot includes a red-painted wooden bed and navy-and-white doll's coverlet. This doll's head is only the second American stoneware example we have seen that includes a cloth body. A chipped nose and losses to base of doll's head, which resulted in the head needing to be secured to the body with numerous pieces of string at some point in time. Later, loose wooden slats to bed and a colored chip to bedpost at foot of bed. A 5" tear to coverlet. H (of doll's head) 2 3/8" ; L (of doll) 12 7/8" ; L (of bed) 16 1/4".
