Outstanding Stoneware Rundlet with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to H.H. Zigler, Newville, PA, circa 1852-1865, ovoid form with footed molding to base and rim, the midsection fitted with a carved, nine-sided bunghole, highlighted in cobalt slip. Surface exuberantly-decorated on the left and right sides with leafy stems bearing four large tulip blossoms. An exceptional form, extremely rare in the work of Pennsylvania stoneware potters, complemented by lavish cobalt brushwork. One of the finest examples of Newville, PA stoneware to come to auction in the past several years. Footed molding on one end with three chips. Footed molding on opposite end with a 1 1/4" chip, a minor chip, and a 1 3/8" line. Otherwise excellent condition. H 11".
