Fine Stoneware Pig Flask with Incised Railroad Map, Inscribed "By Anna Pottery / 1880", Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, 1880, molded in the form of a reclining pig with incised details to face and hooves, hole at rear, and anatomically-correct underside; incised on one side "St. Louis the future Great / Latest and Only Reliable / Railroad and River Guide / By / Anna Pottery / 1880. Remainder of pig incised with a map of the Midwestern U.S., including the following landmarks: Miss River, Chester, Grand Tower, Percy, Alton, Springfield, O & M R.R., Bloomington, Vandalia, Effingham, Odin, Centralia, Tamaroa, DuQuoin, Carbondale, Mounds, Cairo, Jonesboro, C. & V. R.R., Vincens, Anna, Chicago the Corn City, and Cincinnati the Pork City. This example features an unusual treatment of salt glaze over dipped Albany slip, resulting in an appealing mottled surface ranging in color from yellow to brown. A chip to one ear. A minor chip and tiny nick to hole at rear. A reglued 1 1/8" piece of one rear leg. L 6 1/4".
