Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1855, semi-ovoid jug with squared spout, decorated with a large, intricately-slip-trailed design featuring oval-shaped blossoms emanating from a central stem with leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 2 1/4" inverted Y-shaped line from spout on reverse. A 2 1/4" surface line to shoulder. Two spout chips. Minor chipping to interior of spout. A 2" x 1 1/8" flake to underside at edge with a very faint 1 1/4" line extending from it. A 1 1/8" line to base of handle.
