Fine Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Flying Bird Decoration, Stamped "SEYMOUR & BOSWORTH / HARTFORD CONN", circa 1875, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flying bird with well-detailed body in unusual diving stance. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: David Musser Collection. Area of exfoliation to reverse. Light exfoliation to front and some small spots of exfoliation to right side of crock. Exfoliation to underside. A rim chip on reverse. H 13 1/8".
