Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Drape-and-Tassel Motif, Stamped "CORLEARS HOOK", Thomas Commeraw, Manhattan, NY, circa 1815, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an impressed drape-and-tassel motif highlighted in cobalt slip. Impressed on front in large letters with the mark, "CORLEARS HOOK", brushed over in cobalt slip. Additional cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Heavy chipping to base. One rim chip. H 11 1/2".
