Rare Half-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Stenciled "C.H. Torsch & Co. / Baltimore, Md.", attributed to A.P. Donaghho, Parkersburg, WV, circa 1880, ovoid pitcher with flared collar and tooled rim, featuring stenciled merchant advertising for C.H. Torsch of Baltimore. Freehand cobalt stripes above and below. Collar nicely-decorated with inverted swags flanking stripes along the spout. Cobalt highlight to upper handle terminal. Relatively few pitchers produced by Donaghho for Torsch are known, this example featuring a desirable half-gallon size. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Rim and spout chips, including a glazed-over chip to rim on reverse. H 8 1/2".
