Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Pheasant-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT", circa 1855, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested pheasant with turned head and long tail, perched atop a tree stump. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Very nice condition with some discoloration, a 3/4" glazed-over iron ping below bird's tail, a small iron ping to shoulder, a minor stone ping to spout, and a tiny base nick.
