Fine and Possibly Unique Stoneware Presentation Jar with Cobalt Heart Decoration, Inscribed "Newark, NJ / A.B. / 1882", attributed to Union Pottery, Newark, NJ, 1882, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and flared rim, featuring the incised and cobalt-highlighted inscription "Newark N.J." above a central slip-trailed heart design. Inscribed below in brushed cobalt "A.B. / 1882". Decorated around the circumference with elaborate slip-trailed floral and foliate motifs. Cobalt dot decorations encompass the shoulder and base. Additional cobalt brushwork near base on reverse is possibly an indecipherable inscription. An outstanding example of New Jersey stoneware. Excellent condition with a small rim chip. H 6 3/8".
