Very Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Bird Decoration, Stamped "W.H. FARRAR & Co. / GEDDES, N.Y.", mid 19th century, ovoid jug with tapered spout, decorated with a large incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a bird perched on a stylized flower. Good incised detail throughout bird, including rings to its necks and stripes to its breast. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. This jug, produced before Farrar's well-known slip-trailed motifs came into fashion, is one of a small number of pieces with incised decoration known by this potter. Missing handle. Some roughness to surface. A minor, stained spout chip.
