Fine Three-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Pottersville, Edgefield, District, SC origin, Stamped "T", circa 1820, highly-ovoid jar with rounded rim and large applied tab handles, the surface covered in a light-hued alkaline glaze with appealing darker runs cascading from the shoulder. Impressed with T-shaped potter's mark at base. Excellent form and glaze. Literature: Illustrated in Cinda K. Baldwin, Great and Noble Jar, p. 164, plate 6.1. Very nice condition with a tight, stained crack running along the top of one handle and curving around one of the handle's terminals. Two additional short, minor surface lines in same handle. H 12 3/4".
