Unusual Three-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Cobalt Berries Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG. PA", circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed design of a leafy branch bearing two clusters of berries. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Chip to reverse end of one handle. Minor wear to edge of opposite handle. 6" T-shaped crack on right side of jar's front, extending onto underside, where it measures 5". An in-the-firing 3 1/2" Y-shaped line on side of jar, which is glazed-over on interior. 2" faint surface line on side of jar, not visible on interior. Minor iron ping near base on reverse.
