One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Stamped "SMITH & DAY / NORWALK", CT origin, circa 1840, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded spout, and applied handle, decorated with brushed swags around the shoulder. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Includes antique wooden stopper. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. Recessed contact mark below handle on reverse, two small in-the-firing contact marks to body, and a minor in-the-firing chip to spout.
