Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "W.H. LEHEW & CO. / STRASBURG, VA," circa 1870, ovoid form with flared base and tooled rim, decorated with a brushed cobalt tulip extending across the front and cobalt highlights to the handle terminals. Impressed with Lehew maker's mark on reverse. Excellent size and form. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from a Southeastern Virginia collection amassed decades ago. Very nice condition with only minor flaws. A small stone ping to front, a spout chip, a minor rim nick, a minor base chip. A 1" hairline from rim on reverse.
