Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Churn, Stamped "F.J. CAIRE / Huntington, / L.I.," circa 1854-1863, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with stylized brushwork resembling leaves or flames. Includes Albany-slip-glazed lid of unknown age and origin, along with a wooden dasher. Unusual form and decoration for this maker. Provenance: Donald Matties Collection. Very nice condition. Some exfoliation to underside. A small rim chip and typical nicks to inner rim where a lid would rest. Lid in excellent condition.
