Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to M. & T. Miller, Newport, PA, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, lavishly-decorated with a heavily-brushed design of three tulips extending from a leafy stem. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. This jug is characteristic of the Millers' best brushwork, featuring an exuberant design that covers most of the jug's front. Decoration measures an impressive 11" tall and approximately 10" wide. A 1 1/4" in-the-firing base chip to side of jug and a smaller base chip to front of jug. Tight spider lines and crazing to reverse, the crazing continuing onto base on side of jug.
