Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, possibly Corlears Hook, late 18th or early 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and applied loop handles, decorated with a large, finely-incised design of a flower with distinctive "grape cluster" or "fish scale" shaped blossom. Decorated under each handle with early brushed cobalt "fish scale" motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent decoration. Both handles professionally restored. Additional restoration to exfoliation to body of jar, primarily to bottom half of jar. This restoration includes some cobalt touch-up to lower portion of an incised stem and leaves on one side, as well some restoation to exfoliation on interior. Some crazing and exfoliation still visible on exterior. Rim chips, base chips, and exfoliation to underside.
