Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Folky Incised Floral Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, possibly Huntington, Long Island, NY, early 19th century, narrow, ovoid jug with rounded spout and applied handle, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a flower with scallope-shaped leaves flanking a large, heavily-detailed flower blossom resembling a marigold. Excellent form and decoration. Provenance: Recently found in Long Island, NY. Some typical in-the-firing flaws and a short horizontal line to shoulder, probably in-the-firing. Base area with significant, partially glazed-over cracks, which occurred in the firing, one of which extends up to midsection on side of jug. Two small in-the-firing base chips.
