Rare Glazed Presentation Redware Flowerpot with Rope Handles, Chester County, PA origin, Dated 1823, with flared base, elaborate crimped rim, and twisted clay handles resembling rope, the pot dipped in a yellowish slip and covered in a clear lead glaze. Sgraffito inscription on front reads "Hannah Allcut / the 10 mo 8th 1823". Underside with incised inscription, "Sarahann Delam / to Hanna Allcut / a friend [illegible words] 1823". An inscription follows the words "a friend," but cannot be deciphered. Restoration to surface. Some restoration to rim. Additional chips and wear to rim. Chips and wear to handles. Small base chips. H 7 1/4" ; Diameter 8".
