Rare Stoneware Canning Jar with Diagonal Freehand Cobalt Vining, Western PA origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid canning jar with tooled shoulder and flared "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a diagonally-brushed freehand vine design in the Western Pennsylvania style. Two brushed stripes below rim and one at base. Highly unusual design for a canning jar from this region. A minor and shallow glazed-over base chip on side of jar. Some shallow chips and roughness to interior of rim. A shallow rim chip on reverse. H 8 1/8".
