Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Unusual Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER.," New York State origin, circa 1860, narrow, semi-ovoid jug with pronounced spout, the front decorated with a slip-trailed design of a plant bearing three flower buds with heavily-shaded interiors and spotted tips. Slip-trailed shading to leaves. Slip-trailed "3" above. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some minor fry to cobalt.
