Very Fine and Scarce Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "S. AMBOY. N. JERSY," Thomas Warne and Joshua Letts, South Amboy, New Jersey, early 19th century, squat-shaped cylindrical jar with footed base, heavily-tooled, tapered shoulder, and squared rim, the front decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted leaf or drape design. Large, deeply-impressed maker's mark "S. AMBOY. N. JERSY" above. Excellent size and form. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from a Midwestern collection. Thin, 3 1/2" cross-shaped crack from rim to shoulder. Partially-glazed-over base chip. H 7 1/2".
