Shenandoah Valley Multi-Glazed Redware Wall Pocket, Strasburg, VA origin, circa 1890, with footed base and coggled rim, the front decorated with an applied clay bird and floral design. Heavy impressed circle details to the two larger blossoms. Incised accents to bird's wings, central blossom, and leaves. Surface covered in a streaks of cream, green, and brown over an orange ground. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased decades ago in the Mid-Atlantic region. Missing handle. Crude, old putty restoration to bird's beak. A minor base chip. A minor fleck of glaze loss to reverse. H 5 1/2".
