Rare Terra Cotta Figural Paperweight, Marked "N.Y. ARCHITECTURAL TERRA COTTA CO. / 1891" and Signed "J. TAYLOR", Long Island City, NY origin, molded in the form a reclining cherub atop a pillow, holding a banner with embossed "ARCHITECTURAL TERRA COTTA CO." mark. Embossed signature at base indicates "J. TAYLOR" as the maker of the mold. Literature: As discussed in Edwin Atlee Barber's, The Pottery and Porcelain of the United States, Taylor was active in East Liverpool, Ohio and served as the superintendent Architectual Terra Cotta Company in Long Island City, New York (Barber, p. 388). Loss to one pillow tassels. Minor chips to figure. A 1 1/2" flake to underside, along with other small chips to underside. L 4" ; H 3".
